Better Translations, Better Workflow

Good translations are an important part of making Balbooa Extensions comfortable to use for people around the world. Over the years, our community has helped us make Balbooa available in more languages, but the way we managed translations was becoming harder than it needed to be. So, we decided to change it.

For a long time, we used Transifex to manage translations across Balbooa Extensions. It helped us collect translations from the community, but the workflow had its limitations.

There were quite a few untranslated language constants across our products. Managing the language files was also a time-consuming process. Uploading and downloading files, keeping everything in sync, and making updates across different extensions took more work than it should.

As Balbooa products grew, this became harder to maintain. We knew it was time for a better approach.

We have moved to a new automated system for managing and updating language files.

All language projects are available in public GitHub repositories. Whenever a language constant is added or changed in an extension repository, the synchronization process with the translation repositories starts automatically.

During this process, the system checks for new language constants. If a new constant is found, translations are automatically created for all available languages.

The new workflow makes it much easier for us to keep translations organized, update language files, and apply changes across our products without all the manual work.

As part of this move, we went through the language files across all Balbooa products and updated the available language packages. This means cleaner language files, fewer untranslated constants, and a much more efficient process for keeping everything up to date. And, most importantly, we can react to translation issues much faster.

We have removed our Transifex account, as we no longer need it. From here, we will continue managing translations through the new system and keeping the language packages across Balbooa products up to date.

But we still need your help. If you come across a translation that looks strange or simply doesn't sound right, please let us know. We will be happy to check it and fix it. To report a translation issue, use our Contact Form → select a topic Translations → subject Report a translation issue. Then choose the relevant Product and tell us what should be changed.

Better translations are an ongoing process, and now we have a much better way to keep them that way.

This change would not have been possible without the people who helped us with translations over the years. Many Balbooa community members contributed translations, checked language files, and helped make our extensions more accessible to customers around the world. We really appreciate that.

Every translated string might look like a small contribution, but together they make a big difference. They help more people use Balbooa comfortably in their own language and make our products more welcoming to the whole community.
